Welcome to the home page of Taivalmaa Youth Society!
Taivalmaa is a little village in Jalasjärvi in western Finland. There are 197 inhabitants in our village and almost all of them, 179, belong to the Youth Society, regardless of the age.
Taivalmaa Youth Society and 965 other local Youth Societies belong to the Finnish Youth Association, which is one of the oldest youth organizations in Finland, established in 1897. All activities of the Youth Societies are nonpolitical, mainly cultural, educational and sport activities. The societies are also active in developing their local community and international relations.
Our Society (established in 1994) organizes activities for the community and takes care of the village house called "Taivaltupa" (built in 1915). Taivaltupa used to be a school but when it was closed in 1994 the municipality of Jalasjärvi sold it to Taivalmaa Youth Society (cheap, I'm grateful to say). Now Taivaltupa is open for all the villagers to gather together, to play billiards, to weave etc. It's also possible to arrange weddings, birthday parties and other festivities in Taivaltupa.
We repaired the out houses of Taivaltupa: the sauna and the big woodshed. A veranda was built against the southern wall of the sauna. We also built 3 rooms for summer holiday accommodation.
